Roots - How to Play

Aim of the game

Earn as many points as possible for you and your team by walking, cycling or wheeling between Beat Boxes across Roots Workplace Challenge Wednesday 11th November 2026 - Wednesday 25th November 2026.

Set Up

All players over the age of 16 can create an account on the app. When you're ready to start, use the Beat Box map to plan your route and get going!

The game in Roots Workplace Challenge runs from 0.01am on Wednesday 11th November 2026 until 7pm on Wednesday 25th November 2026.

Playing the game

1. Download the app
   Install the Roots Workplace Challenge app on your phone.
2. Join your workplace team
   Create your account, find our workplace team and encourage colleagues to do the same.
3. Place your local Beat Boxes
   Login to your account via the desktop Beat Box Mapper and place Beat Boxes near your home and the surrounding area to ensure you can play anytime.
4. Find your nearest Beat Boxes
   Check out the map via the app, and walk, cycle or wheel to the Box location and swipe to collect it.
5. Keep moving to earn points
   Reach another Beat Box within 60 minutes to score points for your team and look out for Hidden Gems along the way - these are places of interest along your route that help you discover places you might not know about.
6. Climb the leaderboard
   Keep collecting to compete for prizes such as free coffees, shopping vouchers and the Enterprise Cup.
   

Win Beat the Street

The workplace team at the top of the Average Points Leaderboard at the end of the game will win the Enterprise Cup. There is also a prize for the individual with the highest points at the end of the game - they’ll win a £20 Argos voucher.

We will also have spot prizes throughout including a REC lunch voucher, Decathlon and Argos vouchers on offer.

Look out for bonus points events throughout.

Hints & Tips

Play Beat the Street on your way to school or work, or play at weekends.

If more than an hour passes since swiping a Beat Box you will need to start a new journey.

Keep track of your points and team's position on the app.

Definitions

Beat Box - virtual checkpoints where players collect points

Lucky Box- draws will take place throughout the game where a swipe on a Beat Box from a registered player will be awarded a prize.

Cheating - driving between Beat Boxes, swiping multiple cards per person (this refers to one person swiping multiple cards ), or using someone else's app constitutes as cheating.
